WHY DARREN O’BRIEN HAS THE NICK NAME SNOW
The name Darrin O’Brien may not be recognized by many people. Change that name to the singer “Snow” and more people are going to know who you are talking about, but how did the Canadian rap and reggae singer obtain this interesting stage name? The name originated from the singer’s neighbors the Browns who introduced Darrin to reggae music when he was a teenager. The family began to refer to him as “Snow” or “Snow White”. One of those clearly sounds better for a male singer than the other who is attempting to fit into a tough rapper persona, and that is the one that ended up sticking. Darrin met Marvin Prince in New York City who introduced Snow to the rapper M.C. Shan who turned Snow in to a big name. Prince added an acronym to “Snow” calling the Canadian the “Superb Notorious Outrageous Whiteboy”. This complicated acronym was never fully accepted by the performer and he continued to entertain with the simple nickname of “Snow”. The nickname is now the commonly accepted name for the Canadian and is the name on all of his records. It is used generously in song and album titles throughout his career’s work.
